Background

Alan E. Rabunski was born and raised in the City of New York, and is a product of the New York City public school system, having graduated from the Bronx High School of Science and the City College of New York. Mr. Rabunski received a J.D. with honors from the John Marshall Law School, where he served as the Comments Editor and as a Staff Member of the John Marshall Journal of Practice and Procedure, and published a comment regarding "Practice and Procedure Under the Illinois Post-Conviction Hearing Act.” After he completed law school, Mr. Rabunski served as the law clerk to the Honorable Allan Stouder of the Illinois Appellate Court. Thereafter, he received an LL.M. in Taxation from the New York University School of Law, Graduate Division.

Mr. Rabunski is admitted to practice in New York and Illinois, as well as the United States Tax Court, the Southern and Eastern Districts of the United States District Court, and the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Mr. Rabunski regularly lectures to attorneys and accountants on tax, probate, and estate matters. He has lectured on tax matters to the Rent Stabilization Association of New York City, and the Foundation for Accounting Education (the continuing education unit of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants), and also served as a part-time lecturer on S corporations and partnerships at the New York University School of Continuing Education in Law and Taxation.

With over 34 years of legal experience, Mr. Rabunski has attained an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, a testament to the fact that his peers ranks him at the highest level of professional excellence, in recognition of his knowledge and skill derived from extensive experience. Since 1985, Mr. Rabunski has been a member of the tax, estate planning, estate administration, and estate litigation panels of the Legal Referral Service of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.

Practice Areas

Mr. Rabunski practices in the area of taxation, including planning, tax compliance and tax preparation, offers in compromise, private letter rulings, and practice before state and federal tax agencies at the administrative level, including the Internal Revenue Service, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, and the New York City Department of Finance. He also practices in the areas of estate planning, probate and estate administration, including the preparation of wills and trusts, powers of attorney, trust and estate litigation, kinship and accounting matters, real estate, and general business matters, including the formation, sale, purchase, merger, acquisition, dissolution and termination of business organizations of all types (corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies), and the preparation of partnership and shareholder agreements, and the formation and dissolution of not-for-profit corporations.

Mr. Rabunski has served as a guardian ad litem in the Surrogate's Court in New York County, Bronx County, Kings County, Queens County, and Nassau County, as a Law Guardian in the Nassau County Family Court, and as a court evaluator in the Supreme Court of New York County.

Mr. Rabunski has extensive experience in real estate matters, with particular reference to the sale and purchase of single-family and multi-family properties, and condominiums and cooperatives. He served as a member of the Board of Assessment Review in the Village of Larchmont (1992-1994), and as an arbitrator and a hearing officer on small claims matters in the Civil Court of New York and Kings County.
